Qui sommes-nous ? / Notre équipe

Dr. Bach Kim Nguyen

Founder

“Everyone can be part of the solution.”

His experience

Aside from being a scientist, Dr Bach Kim Nguyen is also a societal entrepreneur. Holder of a B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences and a complementary Master’s from the University Faculty of Gembloux, Bach Kim went on to specialise in plant biology, agronomy and entomology. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Liège with a thesis on the protection of bees before completing an MBA in Business & Management at the Solvay Brussels School. After that, he followed various training courses in virology at the University of Ghent, in circular economy at the Coaching – Circular Economy at the Oksigen Lab and in societal entrepreneurship at the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford University.

He developed and managed numerous multi-party projects (public – private, inter-university, etc.) by fostering “win-win” collaborations, thus ensuring the perpetuation of the partnerships and projects. He promotes collaborative and participative models with the objectivity and factual pragmatism of a scientist. He co-created the “sustainable nature” concept and his definition of “sustainable” encompasses three key elements: the environment, society and the economy.

Kim worked as a research and teaching assistant at the University Faculty of Gembloux, as engineer and project manager, as advisor to the first Vice President of the University of Liège, is the co-founder and scientific director of the European Week of Bees and Pollination at the European Parliament and founded BeeOdiversity sprl (plc). He is a Belgian and international expert on pollinators, biodiversity, agriculture and societal entrepreneurship (FPS (Federal Public Service), FASFC (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain), ANR (National Research Agency), ANSES (French agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety), BES-Net (Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network), Bee Informed Partnership, Ashoka Fellow, etc.).

His role

Kim puts his scientific and entrepreneurial experience, not to mention his creativity, at the service of the BeeOdiversity vision, i.e. the conservation of the environment and human health via collaborative and economically sustainable models. He devotes much of his time to strategic planning, project conceptualisation and to the development of innovative tools and models.

What motivates him?

Kim wants to change the world for his children and future generations. He is eager to preserve and improve the environment with due consideration for the issues and constraints the various stakeholders are facing. On the basis of a “bees – pollinators – biodiversity – food diversity – human health” continuum, he unites all the stakeholders and gives each one the opportunity, at their own scale, to contribute to a better world for future generations.
